The pedal steel guitar is heavily associated with American country & western music. A music Heather Leigh has without doubt listened to while growing up in the American South. Yet, she has set out on a personal journey to explore the wide range of sonic possibilities offered by the pedal steel guitar. Her often raw and visceral sound has had journalists describe her as a “pedal steel guitar player from hell”. But on her recent album, the highly acclaimed ‘Throne’, she draws deeper on a gothic folk tradition, full of ghostly melodies, sensuality and, of course, lots of haunted pedal steel moaning. On Fanø Free Folk Festival she is joined by John Hannon (Liberez) on violin and electronics.
