Swedish band Groupa are true mavericks who have explored strange corners of Nordic folk music since 1980. Originally a quartet, Groupa is now a trio consisting of Mats Edén, Terje Isungset and Jonas Simonson. Using instruments such as flutes, viola d’amore and various percussion, the trio creates a deeply moving and often meditative take on Nordic folk music. ‘Silent Folk’ one of their albums was named, a fitting name for the mystic moods conjured by the brilliant musicians. On their brand new album, Groupa turns to Norwegian folk traditions. And as one can expect, once again they manage to create a highly personal vision using the roots of Norwegian folk culture. Groupa has played in Denmark several times, but this will be their first performance on Fanø Free Folk Festival.
